Foam Buying Guide

We know that selecting a foam can be a daunting process. Please see below for tips and guidance on buying foam. If it is your first time of purchasing from us we recommend ordering a bag of samples first. Our definition of "Firm" may be completely different to yours.

If you are unsure about what type of foam to purchase please either call us on 01752 345678 or email us at hello@wecutfoam.co.uk. We will be happy to discuss your requirements.

Please note we recommend Fibre & Stockinette for all sofa cushions or similar type of cushions. It helps fill them out and stop sagging.

All Foam types & options:

Firm Foam

Ideal for seating at thicknesses between 2"-4.5" (5cm-11.4cm), can be used for sleeping from 2"-3" (5cm - 7.6cm). We DO NOT recommend this foam over 4.5" (11.4cm) thickness.

Medium Foam

Ideal for seating at thicknesses between 3"-5" (7.6cm-12.7cm), can be used for sleeping from 3"-4" (7.6cm-10.2cm).

Medium-Soft Combination Foam

Ideal for seating at thicknesses between 4"-6" (10.2cm-15.2cm), can be used for sleeping from 4"-6" (10.2cm-15.24cm). This foam type is our medium density foam as a base laminated to our Soft foam as a topper.

Soft Foam

Ideal for seating at thicknesses between 5"-8" (12.7cm-20.3cm), for sleeping we would recommend you have 2"-3" (5cm-7.6cm) as a topper on top of a firmer foam (either medium or firm).

Luxury GOLD SOFT Foam

Similar to the soft but with added bounce. Ideal for seating at thicknesses between 5"-8" (12.7cm-20.3cm), for sleeping we would recommend you have 2"-3" (5cm-7.6cm) as a topper on top of a firmer foam (either medium or firm).

Extra Firm/ Chip/ Reconstituted Foam

Very firm, ideal for garden benches and thinner seating solutions from 1"-2.5" (3.8cm-6.4cm). We do not recommend this for sofa cushions. We do not recommend this for seating over 2.5" (6.4cm) as it is very firm.

Packaging Foam

Unlike all our other foams this grade DOES NOT meet British fire regulations (BS5852) and is intended to be used for packaging only. It is a smart dark grey in appearance.

Memory Foam

We DO NOT recommend memory foam for seating (it is too soft and goes down to nothing, for an alternative look at our Soft Foam). For sleeping we would recommend you have 2"-3" (5cm-7.6cm) as a topper on top of a firmer foam (either medium or firm).

Options:

Stockinette/ Netting

A netting covering placed over the foam keeping it protected.

Fibre/Dacron

A fibre layer is glued (with water based adhesive) around the outside of the cushion helping to pad out saggy covers.

Fibre/Dacron & Stockinette

A Fibre layer is glued (with water based adhesive) around the outside of the cushion helping to pad out saggy covers, the fibre is then covered with a netting cover (stockinette) to help protect the foam and fibre from damage. We 100% recommend this for sofa cushions or similar.
